GM To Finally Introduce High Mileage Cars But Tax Payers Foot The Bill

General Motors is touting its decision to finally introduce High Mileage vehicles MAYBE in the year 2010 or within 10 years but to do so they are asking for 70 Billion dollars to be given to their company and the other final 2 American Car manufacturers. Considering Chrysler really is a GM Label the fact is that there are only 2 car makers in the USA and for over 30 years they have been saying that they are just about to introduce a high mileage vehicle.

It is almost embarrassing, In the early 1970s when the original Oil problems got bad for America GM started working on a Hydrogen Fuel cell car but after many years and billions in tax incentives they never got that car to market. On the other hand they did get an electric vehicle on the streets for a few years in California but after a test period they recalled all the leases and destroyed the vehicles.

What the @$#@ was that about they make a decent vehicle that used no petroleum and as their customers screamed they recalled and put them into car crushers.

Well finally Honda came out with a Hybrid for mass distribution. It was a very small 2 seater car that looked kinda funny but it got about 60mpg. Then Toyota brought out a Prius that got 50mpg and a SUV that got 30+ mpg.

Where was GM and Ford? They were ramping up their SUV sales to the point that no small vehicle by either maker is produced in the USA they are all mostly or totally made in Canada or Mexico and even their small car line had problems with repairs and MPG standards.

So now GM Ford and Chrysler are asking for 70 Billion dollars so they can develop Hybrids and other High MPG cars…. WELL THE FACT IS over 30 years they have already got money from the tax payer and they also put all their research money into bigger and bigger SUVs.

Well you know how congress is. There is no stopping them and the money will be given to the car makers but who is going to bet large percentages of the parts that go into these new cars if they ever hit the street will be made outside our country.

If our taxes are going to these companies then 100% of the parts and labor should be American.

Anyway if you want a car go buy a Honda or Toyota because these GM cars will never make it to the street.

Its embarrassing to anyone who has ever worked on or owned an American car.

StirFry, Apple Pie and Toyota…. Thats what I’m saying
